CLINK. at the Liberty Hotel – Boston, MA

by on Oct.13, 2012, under Bellini, Boston, Cocktails, Gluten Free, Happening, Hotels, Mimosa, Novelty, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Scallops, Steak, Tartar, Wine

We actually started the evening with a few drinks at ‘The Lobby Bar’ in the atrium of the Liberty Hotel. This building was previously “Boston’s Charles Street Jail which had been opened in 1851 as an experiment in prison reformation and closed more than a century later after a judge ruled conditions there were inhumane.” (NPR article)

The building re-opened in September of 2007 after a five-year, $150 million renovation, as the Liberty Hotel. Our night started with a ‘Harvest Margarita’ pictured below and a Besame, both were delicious.

20121014-140621.jpg

We then moved into CLINK. to commence our dinner.

20121014-140749.jpg

I was very happy to see they offered gluten free bread to start our dinner (along with normal bread)

20121014-140712.jpg

We also found an exquisite bottle of wine to take us through the evening, it’s called Darioush (neither of us had it previously and it pleasantly surprised us.)

20121014-141027.jpg

In regard to food, we started with the Beef Tartar (a little too pureed for our preference) though the ice cream on top was a unique pairing that went well with the overall dish.

20121014-140642.jpg

When asked between the Tuna Sashimi and the Octopus with Yucca, the waiter said, hands down if you like Octopus this is the best in Boston. While it was good especially when compared with others I’ve had in Boston, I have had better in Argentina.

20121014-140659.jpg

Our main dishes were another beef dish, and the scallops, both were good, but nothing off the chart. My scallops were especially interesting as they were accompanied by a mix of raw mushrooms and carrots, thankfully I like raw, for those who don’t this may be a little to overpowering to be bearable.

20121014-140726.jpg

20121014-140737.jpg

Overall, dinner was nice, the atmosphere entertaining and the wine and cocktails even better. We arrived for a 6pm reservation, the place was packed (Saturday night) by the time we left which was around 9PM. I recommend booking a reservation for CLINK. and heading over early to get a drink at the Lobby Bar and take the architecture and crowd in at your leisure.

Douzo Boston

by on Oct.13, 2012, under Boston, Sushi, Wine

Douzo does fantastic Sushi in Boston Back Bay, it’s an all around convenient lunch spot with a comfy bar space as well as a larger dining area for those not inclined to sit on bar stools! The service is fast and the quality is fantastic for the price. I started with the Shiitake Mushroom soup which was excellent and perfect effort to fight off all those cold germs people keep coughing onto me!

20121012-201613.jpg

I washed this down with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon: Joel Gott which also helped warm me up on this cold damp day in Boston.

20121012-201625.jpg

Lunch specials here are great and filling, this was the bento box!

20121012-201645.jpg

I opted to follow my soup with a nice tuna and avocado role as you can see, they didn’t over fill it with rice, which always leaves a smile on my face.

20121012-201656.jpg

Overall our lunch was delicious and we found ourselves chatting for over an hour as the restaurant buzzed around us, I highly recommend stopping in for lunch, I’ll have to try them out for dinner soon.

by on Oct.12, 2012, under Atlanta, Beer, Bellini, Champagne, Cocktails, Free Wi-Fi, Irish Coffee, Lobster BLT, Parking/Valet, Roof Deck/Patio, Steak Frites, Swanky, Vegan, Wine

Buckhead is the ritziest suburb of Atlanta.Paces 88 is located in the St Regis hotel.

20121013-133501.jpg
Paces 88 is a very upscale American Bistro .

20121013-133744.jpg
I was there for lunch and there was a vegan option not shown on the main menu.

20121013-133844.jpg
I did not have a starter but went with an Irish coffee. Nothing special here but the presentation was very nice.

20121013-134018.jpg

20121013-164844.jpg
Steak frites was also very good.

20121013-164946.jpg
Lobster BLT was ok but nothing to write home about.

The MET Back Bay Boston

by on Oct.12, 2012, under Beer, Boston, Happening, Octopus, Restaurants, Salad, Tartar, Wine

I find this a great spot to take the lunch crowd. They can turn around a table in under an hour complete with drinks, appetizers and main course. The restaurant’s decor will ooze onto you an atmosphere much more sophisticated than Joes’ American Bar and Grill or Parrish (both in opposite directions of MET) just remind yourself you are going here for a wide option of lunch choices that will all satisfy!

Our lunch started with a Oskar Blues Mama Yella Pils

20121011-232919.jpg

and a glass of the Girard Petite Syrah (very fruity!)

We followed this with the Octopus Salad appetizer, it had great coconut flavor (not to overpowering) I love avocado, so that is always a hit, however the octopus, was tasting very much like octopus, something I do not look for in a cold appetizer.

20121011-233210.jpg

I followed this with the Tuna Nicoise salad, as always this was a great choice, light enough and filling enough for lunch.

20121011-233427.jpg

My friend had the Micro Chopped salad, I’ve also had this and as she found it is a little to much to fit in for lunch, especially when you start with an appetizer!

20121011-233549.jpg

Stop into MET Back Bay for a corporate lunch or dinner party, their service will be sure to please!

Atlanta Grill Ritz Carlton Atlanta

by on Oct.11, 2012, under Atlanta, Beer, Free Wi-Fi, Hotels, Irish Coffee, Music, Parking/Valet, Roof Deck/Patio, Steak Frites, Swanky, Wine

This Ritz is located on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.

20121011-192334.jpg
This ritz is actually very modern inside but the Atlanta Grill is very traditional both inside and out.

20121011-192632.jpg
The place to eat is this outside balcony right on peachtree street. It is very amusing as some of the locals are very colorful .

20121011-192833.jpg
Inside the atmosphere is what you would expect at the Ritz.

20121011-193023.jpg
The Irish coffee was excellent.

20121011-193140.jpg
The beer menu was quite extensive.

20121011-193243.jpg
I plumped for the beer tasting menu. Very good.

20121011-193342.jpg
We visited mid afternoon so the menu was a bit limited.

20121011-193445.jpg
Steak frites was very basic but excellent.
So nothing out of the ordinary but everything that you would expect from the Ritz brand.

Kitchen Boston MA

by on Oct.07, 2012, under Beer, Boston, Champagne, Cocktails, Egg Breakfast, Hamburger, Happening, Music, Roof Deck/Patio, Salad, Wine

We stopped in here for Sunday brunch, and thanks to Daren’s help we started out with a glass of the 2010 Kunin Pape Star and bottle of the Digfish ale.

20121007-142551.jpg
This spot had been open as ‘Kitchen’ since June of 2011, previously it went under the name Pop’s, which I still remember the mouth watering pulled pork sandwich I had!
20121007-141829.jpg

We had the omelette, bibb salad and hamburger Yorkshire style.

20121007-170151.jpg

20121007-170217.jpg
we then followed this with a Singapore Sling:

20121007-170811.jpg
followed this with a Moscow Mule (forgot to take a picture) and then a ‘Sparkling Cloister’ (champagne cocktail)

20121007-171747.jpg
while listening to Ray Charles on LP!

20121007-171842.jpg

and following all of this with a ‘Hemingway Daiquiri’ a little to tart for Chris…but I loved it.

20121007-172256.jpg

As you can see this place had a vibe that kept us there all afternoon, Daren was an equally entertaining bartender and turned us onto a new must have App for the local cocktail scene lover, checkout GetOnTheBar and you’ll see what I mean. Not to mention the fun loving crew that inhabited the rest of the kitchen (you see here chef finding a way to insert some brandy into his meals) asking politely of course as to make sure this would not hinder the bar that evening.

20121008-103727.jpg

We finished the afternoon up with a tall cup of black coffee, I highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat or an entertaining drink and conversation with the bar men at Kitchen Restaurant in Boston’s South End it’s at 560 Tremont Street (Previously ‘Pop’s’ restaurant was situated here.)

Market Boston – Jean-Georges Vongerichten

by on Oct.07, 2012, under Beer, Boston, Champagne, Happening, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Salmon, Steak, Swanky, Tartar, Tuna, Veal, Wine

The salty and sweet nibbles that are put out at the bar are some of the best in Boston, you could consider coming in for a drink just for this deluxe selection. I started the night with a glass of Sankity Light, a local beer that hits the spot, when you don’t want something to heavy or to light.

20121007-131434.jpg

I always start with the Tuna Tartar (one that I consider to be the best in Boston)

20121007-131420.jpg

The Sea Bass is presented in a light sauce that lingers in your mouth, urging you to ask for more!

20121007-131445.jpg

Market has a happening lounge and restaurant scene, I highly recommend making a reservation at Market in Boston for any occasion!

Woodward at the Ames Boston, MA

by on Oct.07, 2012, under Beer, Bellini, Boston, Champagne, Cocktails, Egg Breakfast, Gluten Free, Happening, Mimosa, Music, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Roof Deck/Patio, Salad, Steak, Swanky, Wine

Woodward is a happening spot for tasty food with an old feel, it is named for a tavern once housed in the Ames family home, Woodward is a modern-day tavern that incorporates local fresh foods and a dynamic beverage selection.

20121007-125317.jpg

“Located at 1 Court Street and Washington Mall in downtown Boston, the Ames Building was designed by the architectural firm of Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge in Richardsonian Romanesque and paid for by Frederick L. Ames. It is the second tallest masonry load bearing-wall structure in the world, exceeded only by the Monadnock Building in Chicago, completed that same year.” (Quoted from Wikipedia)

20121007-125510.jpg

I started with the Steak Tartar (topped with an egg, not a usual choice for me but the dish was delicious none the less)

20121007-125529.jpg

The Simple greens salad was topped with pumpkin seeds, cucumber, dill yogurt and a cider vinaigrette, fantastic!

20121007-125551.jpg

Also at the table we tried the Steamed mussels, pork belly, fennel, garlic and Woodward Ale! Unforgettable!

This is a common stop for us when we have people in town and want to show them a comfortable setting with deluxe food and as dressy as you want to make it. I highly recommend stopping into Woodward at the Ames hotel if you are in Boston.

Life Alive Cambridge MA

by on Oct.07, 2012, under Cafe, Cambridge, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Happening, Organic, Restaurants, Roof Deck/Patio, Salad, Vegan, Vegetarian

20121007-121939.jpg

A fantastic find for the vegetarian organic food lover!!! The taste of freshness in this food will stay with you for at least a week after you’ve eaten here. I went on a late Sunday afternoon and the place was pack with a line nearly out the door! The vegetarian menu of deluxe organic options is also supported with a robust smoothie menu.

I started with ‘The Innocent’ a flaxy Nutri-Nama sauce seasoning sweet corn, shredded carrots, broccoli, kelpy yeast & tamari almonds over quinoa.

20121007-122526.jpg
My friend also had the Flourish Alive smoothie, a blend of berry kombucha, blueberries, mango, lemon, avocado and maca, it was DELICIOUS!

20121007-122831.jpg
While you can’t make a reservation as it’s similar to walking into a Starbuck’s, putting in your order and having it rrive at your table in 10 minutes, you can order takeout!!!

20121007-123008.jpg

They have locations in Lowell, Salem and Cambridge MA, I’ve only been to the Cambridge location:

Joe’s American Bar and Grill Boston

by on Sep.18, 2012, under Bellini, Boston, Champagne, Gluten Free, Hamburger, Mimosa, Pasta, Roof Deck/Patio, Salad, Tuna, Wine

If you are looking for a lunch spot, in the sun, next to the bay, look no further than 100 Atlantic Avenue and Joe’s American Bar and Grill. They have a great family friendly menu that also caters to the Gluten intolerant. The wine selection is fantastic for the diverse crowd this restaurant services. They even have a few unexpected gems on the menu like the Asian Tuna Salad (barley seared with a wonderfully light sauce on the side) this is a must have when I stop in for a bite.
