Cavalli Montreal
by supershag on Feb.14, 2012, under Beer, Ceviche, Chicken, Cocktails, Happening, Montreal, QC - Canada, Music, Salmon, Scallops, Swanky, Tartar, Tuna, Wine
Cavalli is located on Peel Street in the heart of downtown Montreal . This restaurant actually turns into a club at 11.pm on a Saturday night.
The place is very swanky and the ambience and music are obviously very club like.
We brought a large group so we sampled a lot of food.
Sea bass main course was fantastic.
Filet mignon was ordered rare nut arrived almost medium.
Swordfish and clams were excellent.
SAQ Montreal
by supershag on Feb.13, 2012, under Montreal, QC - Canada, Wine/Liquor Store
677 Rue Sainte Catherine Quest

This is the state booze shop. More expensive than the States but it is all you have got. Some sparkling wines from France at a decent price.
Weinstein & Gavinos Montreal
by supershag on Feb.11, 2012, under Beer, Bellini, Cocktails, Free Wi-Fi, Irish Coffee, Montreal, QC - Canada, Music, Osso Bucco, Salmon
Weinstein and Gavinos is located on Crecent Street right Un the heart of the upscale shopping section of Montreal .
I would describe it as an up market bar and is one of my favorite lunch spots .
The bar is really well stocked and the interior could be described as rustic cool.
The food is not of the scale but I very good.
They were also very accommodating with the gluton free meal that was requested. The custom cooked salmon was very good.
So if you are shopping and feel the need for lunch or an early afternoon meal this is a great place to visit.

Le Globe Montreal
by supershag on Feb.09, 2012, under Beer, Champagne, Free Wi-Fi, Happening, Montreal, QC - Canada, Music, Swanky, Tartar, Wine
Le Globe, the first restaurant I can actually remember visiting in Montreal in the mid 90s.(my god that was in the last century)
If you want a really cool ambience this is the place to go.
The beautiful people of Montreal cam be seen here. (though they did let Pee Wee in)
Back in my formative years in Liverpool Sapporo was the full hit. (that means good ). So of course they serve it here, not in the non descript bottles but these great designer cans.
Jamiroquai on the play list what more can you ask for.
Ah food that is the reason we are here. Well I have to report that it was excellent . The venison and beef tartar starters were excellent. The steak main course was fantastic. The gluten and diary free salmon was described as the best ever. Just pay this place a visit. It is brill.

The atmosphere was very soothing especially in the bar.
For starters I had pork ribs which were excellent.
Main course was tuna and once again this was excellent
The bar was very well stocked. I had my favorite Chimay beer and the cocktails were very interesting.
No obvious downsides to this place. Well worth a visit.

Local 1110 Savannah
by supershag on Jan.29, 2012, under Beer, Bellini, Champagne, Happening, Roof Deck/Patio, Steak Frites, Swanky, Wine
What a great restaurant . Not at all what I expected to find in Savannah. Located at the tip of Forsyth Park it is located in a charming old building.
The interior is very cool in a very contemporary way and would not look out of place in New York.
I really liked the lighting which created a very soothing atmosphere
This is not a cheap restaurant with prices on a par with Boston . The food is all locally produced(well most if it is) and the service was excellent.
They carried my favorite beer which made the visit worthwhile by itself.
I started with quail stuffed with chorizo which was excellent.
My main course was steak frites.once again this was great.
After dinner I had a couple of drinks on the roof-deck which was very cool.
The trees surrounding the roof were very interesting. Oaks covered with Spanish moss.
Just visited again in Jan 2013.
Some new dishes which did not disappoint.
Deffo 2 thumbs up from me.
Strawberry salad was very good.
Coq au Vin was not that tasteful at the beginning . As the meal cooled it became more flavorful . Quite light not as rich as the usual coq au vin offering.
Tile fish with curry was an interesting combo but tasted very nice.

The IVY London
by supershag on Dec.30, 2011, under Beer, Fish and Chips, Happening, Irish Coffee, LONDON, Wine
In London this restaurant is an institution.Frequented by the artsy fartsy set it is a place to see and be seen.
Located just off the Covent Garden area I recommend that you make a reservation well in advance in order to get in.
I would descibe the place as a gastro pub which seems to be the rage in London at the moment.I had fish and chips and mushy peas.
They were ok but the tomato sauce(ketchup) was excellent.
Overall I really do not know what the big deal is about this place but at least I can say I have been.
Chila Buenos Aires
by supershag on Dec.30, 2011, under Buenos Aires, Champagne, Music, Octopus, Salmon, Scallops, Swanky, Wine
Chila is located in Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires. This is the old dock area that has been gentrified and now houses numerous restaurants and boutique hotels.
The restaurant has a modern feel and the ambience is very pleasant .
We were lucky enough to be seated by the window looking onto the dock which is the prime seating area.
The food was good but I felt overpriced. I had a risotto with scallops and shrimp. Very nice but not the generous portion I have been getting used to I’m Argentina.
The staff were very helpful but unfortunately we could not get the free Wi-Fi to work. While Chila was not my cup of tea it would be worth a visit for the service and view alone.

Fervor Buenos Aires
by supershag on Dec.29, 2011, under Beer, Buenos Aires, Champagne, City, Foods, Free Wi-Fi, Restaurants, Scallops, Steak, Swanky, Wine
Fervor is located in the heart of Recoleta behind the Alvear Palace. It is probably the most traditional restaurant that I have visited in Buenos Aires.Set out like a typical french bistro it is quite formal while not being stiff.
Christmas Eve is the big deal in Argentina .Most restaurants shut down and the ones that remain open lay on a fixed Christmas menu.
This is an expensive night to go out, similer to New Years Eve in the States. The menu here was around 130 US dollars per person. This included 5 courses and an open bar.I discovered a new sparkling wine which was very good.
The food was plain but plentiful and very tasty.I especially liked the country style pate.
Probably not a place that I would go to on a normal night but can thoroughly recommend Christmas Eve.
Aldos Buenos Aires
by supershag on Dec.29, 2011, under Beer, Buenos Aires, Champagne, Free Wi-Fi, Happening, Music, Steak, Wine, Wine/Liquor Store
The Moreno Hotel in San Telmo houses this new restaurant and vinoteca. Not as visually stunning as some of the restaurants in Buenos Aires more of Baltezaar meets Vinny Ts.
The bar area is very nice , not pretensious at all.
The food is simple, well priced and very good.
The beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon with French fries was delicious .
The local market menu is small but covers all the basics like this sea bass.
< As this doubles up as a wine store buying by the bottle is actually quite cheap and of course the range is very comprehensive. Buying by the glass is very limited and not cost effective so I tried a beer. My first from Chile.
Sound system here was excellent. Soundtrack was good and very jazzy.
