CLINK. at the Liberty Hotel – Boston, MA
by supershag on Oct.13, 2012, under Bellini, Boston, Cocktails, Gluten Free, Happening, Hotels, Mimosa, Novelty, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Scallops, Steak, Tartar, Wine
We actually started the evening with a few drinks at ‘The Lobby Bar’ in the atrium of the Liberty Hotel. This building was previously “Boston’s Charles Street Jail which had been opened in 1851 as an experiment in prison reformation and closed more than a century later after a judge ruled conditions there were inhumane.” (NPR article)
The building re-opened in September of 2007 after a five-year, $150 million renovation, as the Liberty Hotel. Our night started with a ‘Harvest Margarita’ pictured below and a Besame, both were delicious.
We then moved into CLINK. to commence our dinner.
I was very happy to see they offered gluten free bread to start our dinner (along with normal bread)
We also found an exquisite bottle of wine to take us through the evening, it’s called Darioush (neither of us had it previously and it pleasantly surprised us.)
In regard to food, we started with the Beef Tartar (a little too pureed for our preference) though the ice cream on top was a unique pairing that went well with the overall dish.
When asked between the Tuna Sashimi and the Octopus with Yucca, the waiter said, hands down if you like Octopus this is the best in Boston. While it was good especially when compared with others I’ve had in Boston, I have had better in Argentina.
Our main dishes were another beef dish, and the scallops, both were good, but nothing off the chart. My scallops were especially interesting as they were accompanied by a mix of raw mushrooms and carrots, thankfully I like raw, for those who don’t this may be a little to overpowering to be bearable.
Overall, dinner was nice, the atmosphere entertaining and the wine and cocktails even better. We arrived for a 6pm reservation, the place was packed (Saturday night) by the time we left which was around 9PM. I recommend booking a reservation for CLINK. and heading over early to get a drink at the Lobby Bar and take the architecture and crowd in at your leisure.
The MET Back Bay Boston
by supershag on Oct.12, 2012, under Beer, Boston, Happening, Octopus, Restaurants, Salad, Tartar, Wine
I find this a great spot to take the lunch crowd. They can turn around a table in under an hour complete with drinks, appetizers and main course. The restaurant’s decor will ooze onto you an atmosphere much more sophisticated than Joes’ American Bar and Grill or Parrish (both in opposite directions of MET) just remind yourself you are going here for a wide option of lunch choices that will all satisfy!
Our lunch started with a Oskar Blues Mama Yella Pils
and a glass of the Girard Petite Syrah (very fruity!)
We followed this with the Octopus Salad appetizer, it had great coconut flavor (not to overpowering) I love avocado, so that is always a hit, however the octopus, was tasting very much like octopus, something I do not look for in a cold appetizer.
I followed this with the Tuna Nicoise salad, as always this was a great choice, light enough and filling enough for lunch.
My friend had the Micro Chopped salad, I’ve also had this and as she found it is a little to much to fit in for lunch, especially when you start with an appetizer!
Stop into MET Back Bay for a corporate lunch or dinner party, their service will be sure to please!
Market Boston – Jean-Georges Vongerichten
by supershag on Oct.07, 2012, under Beer, Boston, Champagne, Happening, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Salmon, Steak, Swanky, Tartar, Tuna, Veal, Wine
The salty and sweet nibbles that are put out at the bar are some of the best in Boston, you could consider coming in for a drink just for this deluxe selection. I started the night with a glass of Sankity Light, a local beer that hits the spot, when you don’t want something to heavy or to light.
I always start with the Tuna Tartar (one that I consider to be the best in Boston)
The Sea Bass is presented in a light sauce that lingers in your mouth, urging you to ask for more!
Market has a happening lounge and restaurant scene, I highly recommend making a reservation at Market in Boston for any occasion!
Hearsay Gastro Lounge Houston
by supershag on Sep.01, 2012, under Cocktails, Fish, Happening, Houston, Restaurants, Salmon, Tartar, Texas, United States
If you have a chance you should stop by the second oldest building in Houston a renovated old building turned hotspot and awesome gastro lounge in the Houston Downtown area known as Hearsay at their first location 218 Travis Street, Houston, TX
Hearsay Gastro Lounge is in the W. L. Foley Building, the second building on the block designed by prolific Texas courthouse architect Eugene T. Heiner buit in 1889. Much of the credit for the current state of the great building goes to former owner and artist Lee Benner and his six year renovation that started in 1993.
I suggest you book in advance if you plan to have dinner at Hearsay Gastro Lounge we had to book the day of and were squeezed in for a 6PM reservation.
I started with the ‘Whitney’ a fabulous blackberry + vodka + champagne cocktail, had to stop at one as it was soooo good!
The Caprese salad was wonderful even with the under ripe tomatoes.

Towne is the latest addition to the Lyons group of restaurants in Boston . It is located in Back Bay in the Hynes Convention centre.
The restaurant has not one but 2 of Boston’s celeb chefs, Lydia Shire and Jasper White.
There are 3 bars located on 2 floors and a great outside dining area.

Sonsie is a Boston institution. Located at the funky end of Newbury Street this hip watering hole was very much the epicenter of Supershag,s formative years.
This was deffo the place to be scene
The restaurant became the place for the beautiful people of Boston to hang out but it also had really good food.
As I had not been there for about 5 years I was very interested to see if anything had changed.
So the menu has changed a bit but the peppercorn steak is still there.this was their classic dish and is really good.
I had the tuna sashimi which really is tuna tartar. It was fantastic.
The chicken was also very good.
Sonsie has free Wi-fi and it is great fun to sit in the front of the reatauant and watch Newbury Street go about it’s business.

As in Buenos Aires ,Gusto , which opened in Feb 2012 is located in an old auto body repair shop.
The restaurant is located on 2 levels . Downstairs has an outside patio and indoor dining. Upstairs is totally open air.
The food while not gourmet was very good.
Beef tartar was served with figs and was very different but very tasty.
The place is extremely hip and it seems that dress code is whatever you want.
I really enjoyed the place and re staff were excellent.

Americano at Hotel Americano New York
by supershag on Jul.05, 2012, under Bellini, Champagne, Cocktails, Coffee, Free Wi-Fi, Irish Coffee, New York, Parking/Valet, Roof Deck/Patio, Salad, Steak Frites, Tartar
Americano is located in the Hotel Americano which is a new boutique hotel in the west village .
Nothing very out of the ordinary in the layout of the place. Usual chrome ,glass minimalist look. It does however have a very pleasant small outside patio.
The food was excellent and well priced for new York.
Beef tartar was as good as I have tasted.
Chicken Paillard was interesting while the steak frites was good but nothing special.
The overall experience was very pleasant and the service was very good. Also it is located very close to the new York high line which is well worth having a walk along.

Olives

The flag ship of the Todd English empire has reopened in Charlestown . Not too different from the original but I wonder if anyone else has noticed how the new layout has increased the noise levels. Time for some sound proofing me thinks.
So even though the place is loud the food was great. Very rich a la Todd English but really good . In fact I forgot to photograph the food so it must have good. Please make do with the menu.
.
This place is not cheap but Definately worth a visit.
