Myers + Chang – Boston, MA

by on Oct.11, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Asian Fusion, Bellini, Boston, Cocktails, Happening, Massachusetts, Novelty, United States, Vegetarian

I had a great experience at Myers + Chang, they are exceptional when it comes to allergy management and food. I’ve honestly not had a better experience in the Boston area. In short the waitress took a menu back to the kitchen and reappeared with a Sharpie marked up version stating what I could and could not order and what would be replaced or removed. Granted there were only a few options left on the menu but I have to say I would go back as what I ordered was delicious and I felt very comfortable there was no allium in the dishes. Aside from this their cocktail list is a delight, inventive drinks that are just delicious! If you have time and want to experience a tasty fusion of Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Thai you should call in, if you’re not hungry just grab a cocktail and enjoy the dragon themed atmosphere.

BLT Steak – Charlotte, NC

by on Oct.11, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Charlotte, Cocktails, Fish, North Carolina, Salad, Steak, Swanky, Tartar, United States, Wine

While we were in Charlotte (for the Liverpool match) we stopped into the Ritz-Carlton Charlotte for a bite to eat at BLT Steak and a few cocktails! There was an influx of Liverpool fans through out the city and all the restaurants but that casual crowd didn’t get in my way of dressing up for the posh dinner we had planned. Service was exceptional from the point of our arrival through to our departure. We started with cocktails at the bar while our table was being arranged. We passed on the puff pastry with cheese (Chris is not a fan). Dinner was the Tuna Tartar, Alaskan Black Cod for Chris and BLT Steak had no problem accommodating for my allium allergy with my selection of the Lobster Cobb Salad and a baked potato on the side. Chris devoured the Tartar and Cod, speechless with how delicious it was. I too had a delight eating the Lobster Cobb (wish there was a place in Boston that did this!) Checkout BLT Steak at 110 North College Street, Charlotte, NC 28202!

5 Church – Charlotte, NC

by on Oct.11, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Beer, Charlotte, Fish, Happening, North Carolina, Restaurants, Tartar, United States, Wine

5 Church was a fantastic spot for both food and atmosphere! The look and crowd were very trendy at 127 N Tryon St, Suite 8 (Corner of 5th & Church St) Charlotte, NC 28202.

Here is a great 360 view from Google of 5 Church (does it more justice than the photo below)

The theme is black leather, white trees and other funky stuff! The food was deluxe fashionably arranged and full of flavor. They happily accommodated for my allium allergy. The wine/beer list are robust enough for our taste with an interesting mix of a few we wanted to try. I will certainly be back if I have the chance the next time I’m in Charlotte!

Aquitaine – Boston, MA

by on Oct.10, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Boston, Champagne, Fish, Happening, Massachusetts, Music, Parking/Valet, Restaurants, Sole, Steak Frites, Swanky, United States, Wine

A favorite place of ours in Boston, Aquitaine always produces a great experience. Wine selection and entrees are fantastic along with the ambiance. I love coming in here just when it opens to grab a spot at the little bar in the front where we will sit all night if possible to have a few drinks and an exceptional meal. The music they play is on trend and the food is fantastic, our standards are the Sole with potatoes and, Steak Frites and the steak tartar!

Boat House Waterfront Dining – Tiverton, RI

by on Oct.10, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Cocktails, Fish, Happening, Rhode Island, Roof Deck/Patio, Scallops, Tiverton, United States, Wine

This is a great spot in a small town of Rhode Island, really far above the standard that you might expect as a local spot. The view from the Boat House Waterfront is fantastic as the restaurant sits overlooking the water and you have a perfect view to the sunset or oncoming lightning storm (depending on the weather!) The service has always presented as classy and I’ve only had a tiny malfunction of receiving a dressed salad versus undressed. The entree selection is appropriate for the location and the wine list always has something worth tasting (last time I was here we had a bottle of Artemis) They happily customized a grilled scallop dish for me during my last visit. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating depending on the weather you choose! Only recommendation I have is to not sit outside at the far right side of the restaurant as their is a unique draft that you wouldn’t experience even a few feet more forward to the entrance.

The Farmer’s Daughter – Blue Bell, PA

by on Oct.10, 2015, under Allium Allergy, Beer, Blue Bell, Fish, Gluten Free, Pennsylvania, Pork, Restaurants, Roof Deck/Patio, United States, Wine

You couldn’t tell from the exterior how trendy this spot actually is. As you walk in you think you are entering an old style in with an old style atmosphere at the other end. Much to my surprise the restaurant has a lovely external seating area with bistro lights, fire pit and bar. The food is farm to table and was delicious. The staff were excellent at suggesting options that did not include allium, another person in my party had a gluten intolerance which they supplied her with a unique menu to choose from. They customized a dish for me of grilled trout, broccoli & roasted potatoes that was delicious. The cheeseboard had a lovely selection and I heard the peanut butter hummus was a great twist on a standard appetizer. Checkout the Farmer’s Daughter website for more details.

BLT Steak House – San Juan, PR

by on Jun.08, 2013, under Beer, Cocktails, Puerto Rico, Restaurants, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Steak, Swanky, United States, Vegetarian

Since BLT Steak is in the Ritz Carlton adjacent to the El San Juan Hotel where the Caribbean DanceSport Classic is held, we stopped in for a late dinner at the bar.

They had a limited wine list by glass, but we found something to accommodate the wife.

Vegetable chopped salad and huge baked potato, they were both absolutely wonderful!

Hanger steak was average and a little tough, they didn’t get my request right to not include the butter… Have to say this was not as good as the one at our local the Navy Yard Bistro in Charlestown, MA!

Tried the Old  Harbour Pale Ale.

Checkout the menu and make a reservation at BLT Steak San Juan Puerto Rico. It seems the best part of BLT Steak San Juan were the vegetables, who would have guessed!

Mongoose versus Cobra – Houston, TX

by on Sep.02, 2012, under Cocktails, Happening, Houston, Texas, United States

Stopped here for a cocktail after dinner,  the drinks were excellent, best we’ve had all weekend and the name of this place alone should spark your interest to stop in ‘Mongoose versus Cobra‘ will not disappoint.

20120901-213821.jpg

The front has large windows that open to outdoor seating in the front. They have a great bar space to the right and seating through to the back of the bar. A very funky space with a great staff!

20120902-085938.jpg

Andy was our bartender and filled us in on the stuffed baboon above the bar (previously occupied an investors basement) he mixed a great flight of shots despite being a QPR supporter.

20120902-085954.jpg

I highly recommend the ‘Roy Orbison’ a cocktail made with Angostura Bitters plus a few other magical ingredients, it was phenomenal (I had two)

I highly recommend stopping at Mongoose versus Cobra in Houston for a drink, they are fantastic and memorable.

Hearsay Gastro Lounge Houston

by on Sep.01, 2012, under Cocktails, Fish, Happening, Houston, Restaurants, Salmon, Tartar, Texas, United States

If you have a chance you should stop by the second oldest building in Houston a renovated old building turned hotspot and awesome gastro lounge in the Houston Downtown area known as Hearsay at their first location 218 Travis Street, Houston, TX

20120901-181711.jpg

20120901-181833.jpg

Hearsay Gastro Lounge is in the W. L. Foley Building, the second building on the block designed by prolific Texas courthouse architect Eugene T. Heiner buit in 1889. Much of the credit for the current state of the great building goes to former owner and artist Lee Benner and his six year renovation that started in 1993.

20120901-182047.jpg

I suggest you book in advance if you plan to have dinner at Hearsay Gastro Lounge we had to book the day of and were squeezed in for a 6PM reservation.

I started with the ‘Whitney’ a fabulous blackberry + vodka + champagne cocktail, had to stop at one as it was soooo good!

The Caprese salad was wonderful even with the under ripe tomatoes.

Prohibition Houston

New Address 1008 Prairie Street | Houston, TX 77002
Prohibition Website

Stopped by this place when it was next to the Galleria in hopes of getting into the sold out burlesque show via the waitlist. We were able to sneak a peak at the show (even though we didn’t make the waitlist)

This is a happening old time speakeasy style bar and restaurant. The bartenders have a dress code that identifies their skill levels: vest = first level, suspenders the next level, all black with suspenders = mixologist.

20120831-200052.jpg

I started with a ‘Southern Lady’

20120831-194237.jpg
It was a little to strong for my taste, moving on to some wine from their fun selection which also features the beloved Chimay!

20120831-195919.jpg

We started with the Caprese Salad and the Wasabi Calamari

Next time I’m in Houston I wouldn’t think twice to come back, we had a great time and were surrounded with a fabulous energy (reminded me of one of the SupersShag pole showcases a few years back great taste and good friends) I recommend you book a reservation at Prohibition or just show up at the bar and see what you can get!
